Class Topics: 04.14.14

In Common Core Math Six today, students in 1 and reviewed in preparation for tomorrow's Chapter Eleven Midpoint Quiz.  The focus was on reading story problems to create and solve equations from given information.

Students inwere divided into two groups.  Mr. Giomini's group worked with Lesson 9.2: Volume of Prisms and Cylinders.  During this lesson, students began to create a formula card that can be utilized on the Chapter Nine Posttest a week from today.  In Miss McGreer's group, students worked with sets of data and how to calculate measures of central tendency.  The class also analyzed graphs.

During , students revisited Lesson 11.3: Solving Equations with Variables on Both Sides in preparation for Wednesday's Chapter Eleven Midpoint Quiz.  Models were provided and Mr. Giomini stressed the importance of combining like terms and remembering our integer rules when adding, subtracting, and multiplying.

Today's Learning Goals: The student will be able to...
  • and 3° -
    • create and solve equations from story problems.
    • Gio's Group -
      • calculate the volume for prisms.
      • calculate the volume for cylinders.
    • McGreer's Group -
      • explain the different measures of central tendency.
      • determine which measure most accurately reflects a set of data.
      • select an appropriate graph for a set of data.
    • solve multi-step equations by combining like terms.
    • create and solve equations from story problems.
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to complete...
