Class Topics: 04.10.14

In Common Core Math Six today, students in 13, and 4° reviewed last night's Evening Practice from Lesson 11.2 with colleagues.  Mr. Giomini modeled questions that needed clarification.  Students completed a Quick Check using Socrative on the iPads and Chromebooks.

Lesson 11.3: Solving Equations with Variables on Both Sides was introduced and practiced.  Students were encouraged to show and organize their work.

The equations 5x + 2y = 48 and 3x + 2y =32 represent the money collected from school concert
ticket sales during two class periods.  If x represents the cost for each adult ticket
and y represents the cost for each student ticket, what is the cost for each adult ticket?

During , students reviewed the Chapter Eight: Perimeter, Circumference, and Area Posttest.  Mr. Giomini shared had students use iPads or Chromebooks to begin previewing Chapter Nine: Volume and Surface Area concepts.

Today's Learning Goals: The student will be able to...
  • 1, 3, and 4° -
    • combine like terms to simplify equations.
    • use a combination of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to solve equations having variables on both sides of the equation.
  •  -
    • determine the width of a shape when the length and perimeter and given.
    • analyze three-dimensional shapes to determine the two-dimensional shapes that make them.
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to...
